Age no barrier for Knockeen Crash

-

HE might be six and a half years old, which equates to being in the mid to late forties in human terms, but a greyhound called Knockeen Crash is still able to compete mighty well at Tralee Track and, indeed, he won his 14th race from a massive 105 starts at last week’s Tuesday SIS meeting.

Knockeen Master is owned and trained by Roger O’Rahilly, of Ballymacelligott, who won the Irish Laurels with Knockeen Master in 1981, and, in coasting home by four lengths in 29.54 for a purse of €290, Knockeen Crash brought his career earnings to €6,426.

In action at the same meeting was a greyhound with an even greater number of races to his credit than Knockeen Crash, namely Shronedrugh Hawk. Turning for home, this fellow appeared to have every chance of making it 19 wins from 111 starts, but he lost out by just a neck to Iniislosky Bumble in 29.46. A runner-up prize of €80 brought his career winnings to €7,382.

Fastest winner at the meeting was Oak Spice, on 28.80, while Dan Wren, of Tarbert, recorded a double with Steeple Rd Mol (29.12) and Steeple Rd Jet (17.90). Other winners: Homestead Vicky, 29.50; Ardfert Aoife, 17.87; Cruzin Buster, 29.27; Millridge Fay, 29.42; Miles From Boher, 29.12.
