Congratula­tions to David Clifford who has been announced as the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Footballer of the Year for 2017. It caps a monumental year for David who has won every accolade available and is due recognitio­n of the prodigious talent that this young man has.

FASHION SHOW

A Fashion Show in aid of Fossa Community Centre will be held in the Europe Hotel and Resort on Tuesday October 10th with a cheese and wine reception at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm. Our own Kerry Minor Captain, David Clifford and Dancing with the Stars winner, Aidan O Mahony will be hitting the Catwalk. Featuring the latest fashion from Dunnes Stores, Macbees, Weardrobe, Scarlett, Jasmine, the Pillbox, Fashionwor­ld/ Joi Boutique, Ella Marie’s Newcastlew­est/ Tralee, Brian James. KILLARNEY LIBRARY

Palestine: A Home Truth, an exhibition by Trocaire on the forced displaceme­nt of Palestinia­n communitie­s in the West Bank, will take place at Killarney Library from Monday 16th - Saturday 21st October during library opening hours. On Thursday 19th October Trocaire will screen This is Palestine, a documentar­y featuring Riverdance founder John McColgan and his journey through the West Bank and Gaza. The screening takes place at 6.30pm. Admission to both the exhibition and documentar­y screening is free of charge.

RECOVERY HAVEN

Killorglin Outreach Service Recovery Haven Community Outreach Service will open in the Killorglin Community Care Centre, Market Street on Thursday 12th October from 10.00am2.00pm. All who are living with and beyond cancer, their carers and families are welcome to avail of the services which include yoga, mindfulnes­s classes, hair care and other group therapies. The first round of Scór na nÓg has been scheduled for Saturday October 28th at 12.30pm in the Racecourse, Killarney. ROADWORKS IN GLENFLESK

Councillor Michael Gleeson is pleased to inform that following discussion with the TII funding has been made available to allow the stretch of badly damaged roadway through Rusheenbeg to be resurfaced in mid-October. The dip on the roadway at Killaha will be repaired at the same time. All this work is being done in conjunctio­n with the closure of the N.22 from the 9th to the 13th of October to allow for remedial works at Minish Level Crossing

GNEEVEGUIL­LA BASKETBALL CLUB NEWS

Hi all, it’s back to basketball again!!. Can ye please include the following report in your notes. It was the 1st Div 2 Ladies game of the season played in Ratmore on the weekend. Also can you include the photo as we got a new kit sponsored by local businessma­n: Angus O’ Leary. Ventilatio­n.

Ladies Div 2. Gneeveguil­la 49 - TK Lixnaw 39. (Played 07/10/2017) Last Saturday night was the 1st game of the new season and Gneeveguil­la were delighted to secure a home win against a talented TK Lixnaw side in a high intensity game in Rathmore. It was 8-7 to Gneeveguil­la after the 1st quarter with Laoise Coughlan for Gneeveguil­la and Erika Quill for TK Lixnaw exchanging baskets. Lixnaw pulled ahead in the 2nd quarter going up 19-25 at half time with super rebounding baskets from Mairead O’Connor & some great outside shooting from Teresa Conway. In the 3rd quarter, Gneeveguil­la narrowed the gap to 4 points going in to the last quarter. (29-33) The final 10 minutes saw Shannon O’ Leary, Sarah Murphy & Coughlan really stepping up the tempo for Gneeveguil­la who took the win 49-39.

Next game for Gneeveguil­a is Away to St Michael’s Lixnaw on Wednesday the 18th of October. A big shout out to local businessma­n Aengus O’ Leary Ventilatio­n for sponsoring our new kit this season. Much appreciate­d.

Uneven Age Juvenile Cross Crountry, Intermedia­te & Masters: Held in Currow on Sunday last, Kate Culloty di well U9 as did Emmet O’ Connor who was out strongest U9 boy. Claragh O’ Connor ran well U11 as did Oisin O’ Leary. Danielle O’ Riordan was running well U13, while Saoirse Tomkins led the U15 race for a long while. Ben Murphy was 2nd U15, while Jack O’ Leary was 4th. We also got team medals in U15, Sean O’ Connor was our other scorer. Andrew Purcell won U19. Tony Buckley won O75. U11 girls team were also in the medals -- Claragh O’ Connor, Kate Murphy, Rachel Hickey & Zoe Counihan. Eileen O’ Riordan & Joan O’ Sullivan both won medals O50 & O60.

Cross Country Relays: The county Senior , Junior and Juvenile cross country relays will be held next Sunday in Killorglin. Looking forward to seeing you all there

Fatima Centenary: The final apparition of Our Lady at Fatima will be commemorat­ed in associatio­n with Youth 2000 at The Church of The Holy Rosary Gneeveguil­la on this Friday October 13th at 7.30 pm with A Youth Mass celebrated by Fr Jim Lenihan. A local person will give a testimony and there will be enrolment in the brown scapular. Everyone is welcome.

80TH ANNIVERSAR­Y

The Church Of The Holy Rosary Gneeveguil­la will celebrate 80 years at the 10 O’ Clock mass on Sunday October 15th.

SLIABH LUACHRA COMHALTAS

Ceol an Gheimhridh 2017/2018: Ceol an Gheimhridh music, singing and storytelli­ng competitio­ns will take place on Sat 18th November in the IT Tralee commencing at 10:30am. Age groups for this competitio­n have changed. The two age groups are U11 and 11-14years only. Ceilí and set dancing competitio­ns take place on Sunday 19th Nov in Fossa Community Centre. AGM - Sliabh Luachra Comhaltas held its AGM recently in Teach Fáilte. We wish the committee members elected on the night every success for 2017/2018. Branch membership is now due, €20 for a family, €12 for a senior member and €6 child membership.

KELLS EB AWARENESS

As part of EB Awareness Week a walk will take place from Old Railway Station Kells to Kells Beach on Bank Holiday Monday 30th October 2017. Walk begins at 1.00pm from Old Railway Station and walk to Kells Beach. Return to Old Railway Station for refreshmen­ts afterwards.

This walk is in memory of Eanna, Liam and Lola who all died of EB last year.
