SUCCESSFUL MUNSTER PIONEER MEETING IN ADARE
THE Munster Pioneer gathering which took place in Fitzgerald’s Woodlands Hotel, Adare on Sunday, October 1st, was an outstanding success and over a hundred members attended – according to local organiser, Tom Horan.
“The President of the Association, Mr. James Shevlin, gave the opening address, followed by Fr. Bernard McGuckian, Central Director of the association who spoke about the importance of wearing the Pioneer badge in public. He said he would not feel properly dressed without it. He stressed the importance of prayer for the protection of the Pioneer pledge,” said Mr Horan.
“A member of the audience described her husband’s battle with alcoholism and the effects it had on their family.
“The Blessed Sacrament was exposed for one hour, during which time prayers and hymns were sung. After lunch, a lively debate took place over many topics, concerning the future of the Pioneer movement.
“It was felt that the Pioneers are still relevant in today’s increasingly secular society. Mass was celebrated by the Bishop of Limerick, most Reverend Brendan Leahy with help of priests present.
“Thanks and praise must go to the organisers, especially to Sorcha O’Leary who chaired the meeting efficiently and to the management and staff of the ho- tel, for their excellent service,” said Tom in conclusion.
