New training centre to offer expanded range of adult education courses
A GREATER range of adult education courses will be available in West Kerry following the official opening of the Dingle Further Education and Training centre in the Rice Building at Canon’s Corner Monday.
Officially opened by Minister of State Brendan Griffin, it is the first dedicated adult training centre to operate in West Kerry since the closing of the ‘old tech’ in 1985. The new centre will expand Kerry ETB’s presence in Dingle from the literacy programme run by Bill McConnell in the former CBS to allow a broader range of programmes across the spectrum of further education and training.
In his speech to the gathering of councillors, Kerry ETB employees and local people at the opening, Kerry ETB Chief Executive Colm McEvoy expressed his confidence in newly appointed Dingle centre manager Eithne Boland, from Fán, and commended the community effort involved in getting the building ready for the official opening on Monday. He also paid tribute to Kerry ETB Board member Cllr. Séamus Cosaí Mac Gearailt for identifying the need for a training facility in West Kerry.
According to Eithne Boland, courses are already up and running in the centre in the areas of Basic Computers, Personal Development, ESOl and Irish for parents, with more courses due to start in November in Healthcare, Office Skills, Photography, Facebook Marketing, Stained Glass and Mosaic Art, Interior design, Storytelling, Creative Writing and Horticulture.
Eithne also plans to liaise with the local community and employers to establish additional local training needs. Anyone interested in delivering courses in the new Kerry ETB Centre is invited to submit their CV and/or course proposal to her eboland@kerryetb.ie
