The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Halloween on a high in Moyvane
Moyvane marks 25 years of Village Festival
MOYVANE celebrated 25 years of its village festival which is a coming together of all that’s wonderful about the life of the North Kerry community - and it achieved its aim in bringing everyone together to perfection.
Packed out big events from boro buffets to barn dances and hunts combined with more fun-sized family treats like dog shows and arts and crafts fair to make the first big milestone of the event the most memorable yet.
The first festival was organised way back in 1993 by Moyvane Development Association and over the intervening years many different events have been hosted such as Céilí, comedy acts, drama, football matches; basically anything that’s entertaining has been rolled out in Moyvane.
This year’s festival kicked off on Friday night with the Rambling House in the Marian Hall, while Saturday night saw its food fair in full flow as the ‘Boro Buffet’ ensured a four-course meal, bar facilities and live music got everyone in full swing.
On Sunday evening the first ever Barn Dance was held in the Community Centre with a ‘Bucking Bronco’ and Photo Booths added for good measure. Novelty spot prizes were also given for the best dancers and best turned out.
Added to the late night revelry was a host of day time events including a Vintage Display, Craft Fair, Farmers Market, Dog Show, kiddies tractor run in the school grounds, to name but a few.
The festival concluded on Monday with the North Kerry Harriers and their first hunt of the season leaping into action across the land from the centre of the village, followed by a Halloween Fancy Dress party. All in all, great crowds enjoyed what was a great occasion.
