-

BALLYFERRITER will be going all out to impress at the first Feile an Bhuailtín which aims to attract crowds to the capital of the West with a festival built around a food, drink and crafts.

With all the pubs in the village and surrounding areas taking part, the day-long festival on Sunday November 5, takes an amount of inspiration from the Dingle Food festival with businesses teaming up with food and drink producers to offer tasty morsels and drinks.

Craft demonstrations with Sue Redican providing a demonstration in spinning and Pat Lawless turning his hand to woodwork will complement the craft fair, which will take place throughout the village, with pumpkin carving and face painting to keep the younger ones amused. Meanwhile, Tig Bhric will serve mulled wine from 1.30pm to keep people warm on a tour of the brewery.

Raffle tickets are on sale in local businesses for a draw which will take place on Sunday evening at 5pm. The organising committee have gathered a selection of art and craft works from the wealth of talent in the area, with work by Louis Mulcahy, Tomás Ó Ciobháin, Liam O’Neill, Carol Cronin and Martine Moriarty amongst the raffle prizes. Maria Simmonds-Gooding has also donated a piece of work which will be sold by silent auction, envelopes into which people may place their bids are available in local businesses at a cost of €5.

Óstán Ceann Síbéal will host a children’s disco after the raffle and the west will be awake with music in all the pubs.

The festival is being organised by a committee of local business people who aim to develop and improve the village, dealing with issues such as a co-ordinated New Year’s Eve celebration and improved signage in Ballyferriter. All proceeds raised from the festival will go towards these developments.
