The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Double just the ticket for Ballyduff
FOR the Ballyduff chairman Liam Ross it was an important win, given their current commitments in both codes at all levels, and the priority of a Munster Championship meeting with Kanturk next weekend.
Having regard to the County League he felt that, if possible it should be completed early season, but conceded that this isn’t always feasible given the various other competitions and club commitments.
“After the celebrations, after winning the county, it was probably the best preparation for next weekend, against Kanturk which is probably more important, we want to stand up and show a bit of pride in the jersey and do Kerry hurling proud. Aidan Boyle and Podge [Pádraig Boyle] they’re lethal, and, Liam chipped in as well, and I suppose they (goals) knock the stuffing out of a team. In fairness to Kilmoyley they kept plugging away, I think it was three points at the finish.
“We have Minor football tomorrow, we have Under-21 hurling on Monday, so we tried to give a few fellows a break, and it probably upset our rhythm in the forward line, it gave them a chance to come back. I would like to see the County League finished before the Championship, but I suppose it isn’t always easy for that to happen, especially with a dual club. You are putting off games, and you don’t know what’s happening, and with the county Under-21 and Minor, they are taking precedent before the Championship, the League is probably put on the back burner, but the day was fine, the pitch was in excellent condition for the two teams, and for the neutral it was a good game of hurling.”
