Mitchels win McElligott Cup crown

McElligott Cup Final

John Mitchels are the McElligott Cup winners following a 3-10 to 1-6 victory over Beaufort at the John Muitchels complex on Saturday last. First half goals from Mikey Walsh and Conor Hurley saw the winners lead by 2-4 to 0-2 at the break but an early second half goal from Kevin O’Brien saw Beaufor t cut the deficit back to four points at the three quar ter stage. A good save by Peter Nammock in the Mitchels’ goal soon after was the turning point and Bryan Costello secured victory with a third goal for the homeside.

Cahill Cup Final

Currow had a narrow 1-15 to 1-14 victory over Renard in the Cahill Cup final at Beaufor t on Saturday last. It was a game of two halves with Currow dominating the first half thanks to an early goal from the penalty spot by Padraig O’Shea, who scored 1-8 of the winners’ total, and they led by 1-8 to 0-4 at the break. Points from the likes of Maurice O’Neill, Eoghan McCrohan and Eoghan McDaid and a goal from Sean O’Connor saw Renard fight back in the decond half but they just came up shor t despite the heroics of their goalkeeper Patrick McGill.

Apar t from Padraig O’Shea, Seamus Brosnan was the other scoring threat for Currow scoring three points. Junior Football League Group 4 Final On Saturday next Glenbeigh-Glencar play Beaufor t in the Junior Football League Group 4 Final at 4pm at a venue to be decided.
