KEANE’S JEWELLERS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS TROPHY Killarney Athletic v Janesboro (Limerick) Sunday November 5 Woodlawn, Killarney at 2pm

KILLARNEY Athletic face the acid test at Woodlawn next Sunday when they play formidable Limerick side Janesboro in the semi-final of the Keane’s Jewellers League Champions Trophy.

The Limerick District League side are in razor sharp form this season and are the unbeaten table toppers in the Premier Division of the Limerick District League with 31 points from 10 games, winning 9 and just drawing one game.

On this type of form they will be very hard to beat and with much more games that Athletic played this season so far will also be to their advantage.

However they are not unbeatable and Killarney Celtic proved that last season beating them in the FAI Junior Cup and Dingle Bay Rovers were unlucky not to beat them in the same competition.

The Limerick side had a tough game in the quarter final against Rathkeale but they won 2-1.

Meanwhile Athletic got a bye in the first round and defeated Doolans Cow 3-0 in the quarter-final.

After their phenomenal achievement of winning Premier A last season Athletic will have no fear of their more illustrious opponents and will go into the game with a fair degree of confidence.

They are now well acquainted at winning big games and with a crack at St Michael’s Tipperary or Shannon Town in the final a possibility they will do their utmost to try and churn out a win.

There is a great incentive for Athletic to win this game as if they do the final will be played in Kerry most likely at Mounthawk Park.

Athletic will go into the game as outsiders but that wont bother them as they are always hard to beat in their home patch at Woodlawn.

Very few believed they would win Premier A last season but they proved everyone wrong with a great win over fellow townies Killarney Celtic.

Athletic boss Stuart Templeman has done his homework on the opposition and will be hoping he can set up his side in the best way to frustrate their opponents and squeeze out a win.

It should be a real close game and if Athletic play up to scratch they are well capable of upsetting the odds and progressing to the final.

However nothing short of a top drawer performance will suffice if they are to win this game

In the other semi-final Shannon Town (Clare) play St Michael’s (Tipperary)
