Christmas party time – delegate the work ... reap the rewards

-

IT might be November, but fear not as there is still plenty of time left to start booking that Christmas party. You should be aware of a few important facts, however. For example, picking the most suitable date so that everyone can attend is important.

The one thing you certainly don’t need is your end of year party ruined by a poor turn out just because it lacked a little planning. Naturally with larger Christmas gatherings it’s much harder to arrange a date to suit everyone, but with smaller groups this should be much easier to achieve. Do a quick poll or survey around the workplace during lunchtime to see what date best suits. You don’t have to cater to everyone’s needs, but some delegating can significantly reduce the chances of a dismal turnout when it comes to your party.

You could also create a special committee that would be entrusted with organising the Christmas party. This can really help as a designated person (or group) can then consult with everyone and decide upon the best party plan to suit. It’s also important to note that the work place is usually an environment of varying ages and interests, so it pays to arrange the kind of big night to suit all tastes and interests… not just yours.

Also, try and establish the basic theme for your Christmas party: is it a meal in a restaurant? Or would people just prefer a few drinks and some snacks to unwind? These are just some of the considerations you need to be aware of. So just remember to be democratic and organise your party as much as possible to suit everyone.

The more people you include in organising the party, the less chances are there will be any mishaps when it comes to reflecting on a memorable occasion. The old saying ‘many hands make light work’ really is a truism worth relying on when it comes to arranging that Christmas party.

After all, the collective aim is the same – to transform an ordinary party into an extra ordinary one. So get delegating… there’s still loads of time left.
