DR CROKES

Munster Club Championship – Quarter Final – payed in Clonmel on Sunday, October 29, Dr Crokes 0-14 Clonmel Commercials 0-8

This was a game in which we played second fiddle to the Tipperary men in the first half. In this 30 minutes Clonmel were well organised in defence and we found it hard to penetrate this defensive set up. We only put five points on the scoreboard in the half hour and only one of our six attackers managed a point from play. We had the first two scores of the second half, two points to draw level by the 37th minute. We were now very much in the game but when we lost a man to a red card in the minute our chances looked slim to qualify for the next round. We however produced a 20 minute plus of outstanding football and never say die spirit. During this period we outscored our opponents seven points to one for a six point victory. This was as good as any display i have seen from this team. We have now reached the semi-final of the competition and i know our management will want an even better display from them in the next round as they would not have been happy with our first half display. Clonmel Commercials were well on top in the first half and even though they didn’t fire in the second half i feel they will be hard to beat in future Munster Club Championships. A negative against us was that four of their men came up the field and scored in the first half. We will now be facing Kilmurray iBrickane in the semi-final which will be played in the Dr Crokes pitch on Sunday, November 12. Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, John Payne, Mike Moloney, Luke Quinn, Fionn Fitzgerald 0-1, Gavin White, Shane Doolan, Johnny Buckley 0-2, Alan O’Sullivan, Micheál Burns 0-3, Gavin O’Shea, Brian Looney, Tony Brosnan 0-2, Daithi Casey 0-3 (0-2 frees), Kieran O’Leary 0-1 Subs: Paul Clarke 0-1, Jordan Kiely 0-1, Eoin Brosnan, Ambrose O’Donovan.

KILCUMMIN

MINOR FOOTBALL Kilcummin 3-11 Spa 0-18. Our Minors captured the East Kerry C championship on Saturday last with a win over Spa in Spa. Two goals from Conor McCarthy helped us to a six points lead at half time before he retired injured before the break. We opened up an eight point lead after James Nagle scored our third halfway through the second half but then had to endure a tremendous fight back from Spa. Indeed only for a resolute defence well marshalled by Seán O’Leary and a number of fine saves from Keith O’Leary we could have been overtaken. As it was Spa came to within one point of us in injury time but Paul O’Shea, who was very influential scored a magnificent long range point to seal the victory. This was a great team effort from players and substitutes under the direction of Seanie, Alan and Mike and when Captain Seán O’Leary lifted the trophy it was a fitting reward for their efforts throughout the year. Team Keith O’Leary, James Nagle, Cathal Healy, Chris Moynihan, Seán O’Leary, Seán Moynihan, Cormac O’Connor, Niall Daly, Eoin Daly, Tomas O’Connor, Lorcan O’Connor, Paul O’Shea, Conor McCarthy. Subs used Philip O’Leary, Darragh Cronin, Danny Cronin, Mike Brosnan. panel Conor O’Leary, John C O’Shea, Dan Keane, Darragh Lehane, Nathan McCarthy, Darragh Brosnan, Con Fleming, Dave Gleeson and Ivor Moynihan.

KILLARNEY LEGION

UNDER 12 GIRLS Having started their training last March the curtain came down on the girls season last weekend in Killorglin. And in the words of coach Selina Looney they saved their best till last. Speaking after their 5-7 to 2-2 East Kerry B Final win over Laune Rangers Selina added ‘The girls fought hard and never gave up.I told them win, lose or draw we are proud of them, they played the best game of football they ever have done and we couldn’t be happier. Some of these girls we have trained for two years and it is emotional coming to the end of the season, but I couldn’t think of a better way to end it. They came home with not one but two trophies this year. Well done to all the girls that played today, I want to thank ye and yer parents so much for their support. It topped off a great year for the girls who also picked up a county league title along the way and of course none of this would be possible without the outstanding work of their mentors Selina, Hannah Devlin, Jason Stack and Enda Murphy. Easily one of the busiest and hardest working management teams this year. Well done all round. MINORS Our minors played Rathmore this afternoon in the East Kerry Championship. In a tight and competitive first half we struck for a goal and that was the difference between the sides at half time (1-4 to 0-5).In a more free flowing second half sprinkled with some great moves we were just pipped at the post by a point. With the team short a few regulars the other panel members really stood up to the plate and they can take a lot of positives from a high quality performance. They faced Gneeveguilla away on Monday in the ‘B’ Championship semi-final. A repeat of this performance would see another competitive game. Final score Killarney Legion GAA 2-12 Rathmore GAA 2-13

SATURDAY MORNING ACADEMY Kerry minors Cian Gammell and Seán O’Leary of Kilcummin were the guests of honour on the final morning of our Academy. They came armed with the Tom Markham Cup and as an added bonus the Munster and National League trophies were also on display in Direen. And as a lovely gesture from their coaches the under-10s who had their last outing in the Academy were presented with a photographic momento of their time with the lads. Well done to Seán Culloty and his dedicated group of coaches who continue to do superb work with the Saturday trainings. and best of luck to our latest graduates who we look forward to seeing progress through the club’s juvenile ranks.

SCOR the club were very well represented at the weekend in the Scor na nÓg in Killarney Race Course. We took part in the set dancing, Solo singing and Ballad. They all performed brilliantly with the Ballad group finishing second. Unfortunately only one goes through to county semi-finals but they can all be very proud of their efforts. Special thanks to Hannah Majella O’Donoghue and Shirley McGough who had given a lot of their time helping to prepare the contestants and of course Scor Officer Carolann Spellman, who coordinates everything in the background. O’DONOGHUE CUP the draw for the semi-finals have taken place for the regions blue riband event. Rathmore and Gneeveguilla will meet this weekend on Saturday, November 4, in one semi-final while Dr Crokes and Kilcummin play the remaining quarter final on the same day. We fave the winners of this on Sunday, November 19, at 2 p.m.
