The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Time to plan your Christmas party fashion!

-

CHRISTMAS is a wonderland of fashion choices for all ages, but don’t become a slave to the trends. Your unique sense of style is important no matter what the occasion, so have the courage to be you!

Just because clothes stores stock certain seasonal trends doesn’t mean you have to like what you see. That black sequined top with the long sleeves and high collar that all your friends are dying to get their hands on? Admit that you think it’s hideous and buy the short-sleeved, fiery red number that brings out your complexion.

Dress for the weather. You might be in the mood to wear a micro mini and six-inch heels, but consider the environment. You might feel a million dollars under the disco lights, but see how you feel when you are queuing in the heavy rain at the end of the night, waiting for a taxi that never comes.

Make sense of the “mix and match” rule. It’s fun taking up-to-the-minute fashion trends and combining them with your grandmother’s pearl necklace to create your own look, but there’s a fine line between boho chic and looking like a Christmas tree.

Have fun with colour. At this time of year, some of us subconsciously reflect the winter season by wearing dark and sombre clothes. And while it may be true that one can never go wrong with “the little black dress,” it has also been shown that wearing colour elevates our mood. So go on – take the sparkling, bright frock off the rail and give it a twirl.
