Appeal to public as glass is dumped at Kerry beauty spot

- By TADHG EVANS

KERRY County Council has appealed for any information from the public after a shocking incident in which almost 140 kilogrammes of shattered glass shards were dangerously dumped at the car park of a much-loved hillside Kerry beauty spot.

The local authority said it received reports from the public last Tuesday that a mound of shards had been ditched at a car park on the Short Mountain, between Tralee and Castlemaine, possibly during the recent Halloween Bank Holiday weekend.

Last Tuesday, a litter warden cleared the recklessly discarded 140-kilogramme glass heap from the Southern Car Park, a viewing area on the Short Mountain that is popular with visitors, to the Milltown Transfer Station.

However, no evidence was recovered during this process, and Kerry County Council’s Brenda Conway explained that the local authority needs anyone with information to contact the Environment Department in Tralee.

“There was no evidence found during the clean-up operation after this was reported following the Bank Holiday weekend,” Ms Conway told The Kerryman.

“If anyone has any information, we would be very grateful, as depending on the information we receive, we could then be in a position to decide the next course of action,” she added.

For anyone with information on this incident, the Environment Department is located at Maine Street, Tralee. The Department can be contacted at (066) 716 2001 and at environ@kerrycoco.ie.

A litter complaints hotline is also available at 1800 326 228.
