Cycling club fund secures extra wheels for day care

-

CURROW Cycling Club presented Castleisland Day Care Centre with a cheque for €8,640 at a brief ceremony at the centre on Friday night.

The money was raised by the Currow club from the Sunday, September 3rd annual charity/ fun cycle.

Castleisland Day Care Centre wish to acknowledge and thank Currow Cycling Club for the huge effort they put in to organise and oversee the annual fundraising cycle.

Centre management also acknowledged that it would not be possible for them to host such an event without the help and knowledge of Currow Cycling Club.

“This year a total of €8,640 was raised and all of us here at the centre are delighted to announce that this money along with other fundraising efforts, namely, €1,000 from Castleisland Card Players and €1,000 from Kearney’s Bar, has enabled us to purchase a wheelchair accessible vehicle,” said Nurse/ Manager Marcella Finn.

“This vehicle which we will be getting in the coming weeks will be of great benefit to our clients, by transporting them to and from the centre in order to avail of our services.

“We are very fortunate in that we have an excellent transport service provided by Kerry Flyer and managed by Local Link Kerry. However, on occasions, a need arises outside of normal bus routes where an individual requires Day Care services.

“The addition of this vehicle will enhance the lives of some very needy clients by allowing Castleisland Day Care Centre to offer them additional days in the centre.

“We are very excited about the prospect of being able to provide transport to and from the day centre with this specially adapted wheelchair vehicle. This vehicle, a, Peugeot Expert, will have capacity for one wheelchair and up to five passengers.

“Drivers of the vehicle will hold a car licence and initially staff will drive the car. We have approached Rural Social Scheme and C.E. Scheme in an effort to secure drivers for the vehicle and we are hopeful that our request will be realised.

“We would also welcome any volunteer drivers who may be free in the mornings and afternoons to contact us if they feel they can help us out by driving the vehicle. They can ontact us on 066 71 43865,” Marcella concluded.
