Minor championship races ahead in East Kerry
THE Tatler Jack East Kerry Minor Championship has reached the Finals stage with a quarter-final and four semi-finals played.
Fossa came out on top against Firies in the quarter-final, on a scoreline of Fossa 5-13 Firies 1-11. This meant that Fossa progressed to the A Championship semi-final against Glenflesk while Firies were paired against Cordal / Scartalglin in the B Championship semi-final.
Dr Crokes won the A Championship semi-final after an exciting fast paced game against Rathmore.
Dr Crokes built a lead in the first half 1-9 to 0-5. Rathmore staged a comeback in the second half but Dr Crokes proved too strong and ran out winners on a final score of Dr Crokes 1-15 Rathmore 1-10.
Fossa edged Glenflesk by the minimum in the second A semi-final. Glenflesk led by the minimum at the break 0-8 to 0-7. The pivotal moment came with 10 minutes remaining when Glenflesk, leading by two points, were reduced to fourteen men.
Fossa took full advantage and a goal by Emmet O’Shea and two points from David Clifford saw Fossa advance to the final against Dr Crokes on a final score of Fossa 1-12 Glenflesk 0-14.
The two semi-finals in the Minor B Championship saw Gneeveguilla and Firies progress to set up a meeting in the final. Gneeveguilla reached the final with a strong display against Killarney Legion.
A Sean O’Keeffe goal gave Gneeveguilla a 1-4 to 0-4 half time lead. Killarney Legion fought back in the second half, but Gneeveguilla proved too strong winning 1-12 to 2-6.
In the second semi-final Firies proved too strong for Cordal / Scartalglin, who were reduced to 14 players early in the game. The final score was Firies 5-8 Cordal/ Scartalglin 1-4.
Both finals will be fixed for the first available date.
Fr Galvin Cup Semi-final
THE semi final of the Fr Galvin Cup, East Kerry Intermediate Championship sees Firies host Fossa on Saturday at 12.30pm, in Farranfore. Extra-time if necessary. The winner meets Listry in the Final.
U-16 Championship
THE MD O’Shea East Kerry U-16 Championship will be wrapped up next weekend when the division 2 Final (Dr Crokes V Firies) and Division 3 Final (Fossa V Kilcummin) are played. Time and Venue TBC.
