Rathmore edge out Legion

PLAYED at Fitzgerald Stadium this was an entertaining encounter from start to finish.
Ryan O’Grady had the town side ahead with a point inside the first minute. David Dineen replied with a well taken goal for Rathmore when he applied a fine finish after a strong run. This player dominated the scoring for the rest of the game.
David added three further points, including a huge effort from over 40 yards. Niall McGillicuddy responded with a pointed free before David Dineen converted two frees. Killarney Legion kept the scoreboard ticking with points from Ryan O’Grady (2) and one from Darragh Lyne.
Rathmore hit a purple patch. Aaron Cronin made no mistake when finishing a fine goal after finding himself in space behind the Legion defence. Three points – David Dineen (2) and Cathal Ryan and a Ben O’Connor goal saw the half-time score Rathmore 3-8 Killarney Legion 0-6.
The second half started with points from Killarney Legion’s Ryan O’Grady and Niall McGillicuddy. The impressive David Dineen added three points midway through the half, but these were to be Rathmore’s final points of the game.
Killarney Legion were down but not out and they were mounted a brave comeback scoring three quick points (Eoghan O’Sullivan, Darragh Lyne and Adam Kissane), Niall McGillicuddy applied a cool finish to the net.
Ryan O’Grady pointed, then slotted home a penalty, awarded after a scramble in front of goal. However, the comeback ran out of time and this impressive Rathmore team held out for victory, with an outstanding performances all over the pitch. Final Score: Rathmore 3-11 Killarney Legion 2-12
