Last gasp Killorglin take victory

MUNSTER JUNIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 3 Corca Dhuibhne 23 Killorglin 26

KILLORGLIN snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a dramatic try in the last play of the game to edge out Chorca Dhuibhne in a very exciting Kerry derby in Ballydavid last Sunday.

The visitors were first to settle and after good early pressure, Tom Healy crashed over for the first try of the game, which out-half Luke O’Shea converted. Corca Dhuibhne grew into the contest and were the better side for the rest of the half.

Their efforts were rewarded with a penalty from Seamus Moriarty and an unconverted try from Nathan Flannery. Disaster then struck for Corca Dhuibhne when Shane Garvey was sent off for a high tackle.

Undeterred, Corca Dhuibhne struck for their second try from Martin O’Gorman, which Moriarty converted to leave them 16-7 ahead at half time.

Corca Dhuibhne were reduced to 13-men early in the second half when Micheal Breathnach was yellow carded. Killorglin took advantage of this and Tommy Moriarty went under the posts with Luke O’Shea converting to narrow the gap to two points.

Corca Dhuibhne then struck back when Gearoid Breathnach scored a brilliant try after great work from Niall Flannery. Killorglin weren’t finished however, and Neil O’Shea went over the whitewash to reduce the gap to two points.

Smelling victory, Killorglin’s Luke O’Shea then fed centre John Michael Cronin O’Reilly who touched down to break Corca Dhuibhne hearts as the final whistle sounded, and Killorglin were three-point victors.

Killorglin now lie in second place at the top of the table with fourteen points, while Corca Dhuibhne are in ninth place with five points.
