Castleisland and Fenit bow out of FAI Junior Cup

-

FAI JUNIOR CUP FOURTH ROUND Carrig Celtic 1 Castleisland 0

CASTLEISLAND journeyed to West Limerick to face a formidable task against a good Desmond League side and after a very tight game they went down 1-0 to the Desmond League side. The game was wide open right up to the very end and Castleisland were not happy at a number of decisions that went against them. Castleisland held their own well for most of the game and the sides went in scoreless a half time.

The home side then hit the woodwork twice and it looked as if it might be Castleisland’s day. However, everything changed in the 75th minute when Carrig scored and while Castleisland did their utmost to find an equaliser it never came and their journey ended.

Glin Rovers 3 Fenit Samphires 3 (Glin Rovers won 5-3 on penalties)

FENIT Samphires also had to travel across the county border to Limerick and they were most unlucky to lose to Glin Rovers in a penalty shoot out after the game ended 3-3 after 90 minutes. Celtic went 1-0 ahead after 33 minutes and it was 1-1 at half time.

Glin then scored twice and seemed to be heading for a comfortable win. However Fenit rallied strongly late in the game bringing it back to 3-2 in the 82nd minute and they grabbed a sensational equaliser in added time.

Now they seemed the momentum was on their side going into extra time and expectations were high when it went to penalties. But as everyone knows this is a pure lottery and unfortunately they came out at the wrong end in the shoot out. Ferdie O’Brien, Ryan Downey and Sean Foley scored for the seasiders.

FAI JUNIOR CUP THIRD ROUND Killarney Celtic 4 Moher Celtic 0

AFTER the weekend’s FAI Junior Cup action Killarney Celtic are the only Kerry side left in the competition after a great 4-0 win over Clare side Moher Celtic at Celtic Park on Sunday. Danny Roche (2), Peter McCarthy and Gary Keane scored for the winners but they won’t have much time to rest on their laurels as they head off for Clare next Sunday when they play Newmarket Celtic in the fourth round of the competition with the kick off at 2pm.

Celtic got to the semi-final of the national competition last year and with an even stronger squad this year they’ll have realistic aspirations of going all the way this year.
