The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Talented Killarney artist to have work shown in RDS this weekend
A Kerry artist will have her work displayed at Ireland’s first art fair ‘Art Source’ at the RDS from the 10th to the 12th of November, following her early retirement.
Ireland’s biggest art show of the year is expected to house over 15,000 people. This event will give people the opportunity to purchase up to a hundred pieces of the original artwork. Each piece will cost €100 on a first-come, first-served basis.
One of the artists who will be displaying her work at the exhibition is Olivia O’ Carra from Park Drive in Killarney, who began showcasing her talent at a charity exhibition almost fifteen years ago, where all her work was sold out.
“I worked as a science teacher at two schools in the area,” she said. “The local Rotary Club had an exhibition for charity in 2003 and I brought my work along. When it all sold out, it started me thinking and I decided to opt for early retirement from teaching to pursue art.”
Her pieces have caught the eye of so many people due to her layered-techniques in landscaping and she is well known for her depiction of water in all its forms.
“I love nature and having the national park at my doorstep is a blessing. I’m also especially fascinated by reflections in small water.”
This year’s ‘Art Source’ sold out in record time and includes over a hundred and thirty contemporary artists and twenty Irish and international galleries coming together to reveal painting, photography, sculpture, ceramic art and illustration prints.
“Art Source offers visitors the opportunity to purchase a one-off affordable artwork to make their home unique and also the opportunity to meet the artists and hear about their work,” said show organiser Patrick O’ Sullivan.
Emphasis on visitor involvement is massive at ‘Art Source’ and this year the exhibition will have interactive oil and resin painting demonstrations.
There will be free art workshops for children under the age of twelve. ‘Art Source’ will take place at the RDS in Dublin from the 10th to the 12th of November.
Adult admission is €10 and €8 for OAPs. Children under sixteen go free if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Opening times are Friday November 10: 11am to 9pm, Saturday November 1110am to 6pm and Sunday November 12 from 10am to 6pm.
