Taste of Christmas already in the winter air

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

BALLYROE Heights Hotel was packed to the rafters last Thursday as Ardfert National School held its annual ‘ Taste of Christmas’ cookery demonstration.

Chefs Kevin O’Connor and Noel Keanne of ‘Croi’ Restaurant in Tralee, Marcus Eidner of Nick’s Restaurant in Killorglin, Maximo of ‘Once upon a cheese’ and Peter Curran of ‘The Well Bred Butcher’ in Ardfert were the main draws on the night as they worked hard to serve up a rich combination of culinary delights.

The audience enjoyed tastings throughout the evening, varying from parsnip, carrot and garlic soup to venison and monkfish and from gnocchi to steak. All these delicious dishes were enjoyed after a complimentary mulled wine and mince pie reception in the foyer on arrival.

“The school wishes to thank all who worked so hard on the night particularly the chefs who showcased their talents, Ballyroe Heights Hotel for hosting the event and providing the drinks reception, the Parents’ Association for organising the raffle, and all who sponsored spotprizes,” a school spokesperson said.

“The school wants to thank all who attended on the night, helping to make it such a success and ensuring that much needed funds were thankfully raised for the Ardfert School Hall Development Fund.”
