Where will the new Tralee town centre taxi ranks be located?
FOLLOWING the passing of new bye-laws to formally introduce new taxi ranks in Tralee town centre there has been some confusion over the exact location of the new ranks and when they will operate.
In all there will be eight taxi ranks – of varying sizes – operating in the town centre on a 24-hour and night time only basis.
Three full time 24-hour ranks will operate at Bridge Lane and Bridge Street (next to Shaws Department Store) which will have capacity for nine taxis; at Abbeycourt (next to Boots Pharmacy) which will have capacity for eight taxis and at Edward Street (opposite the post Office) which will have six taxi spaces.
In addition there will be an additional five ranks which will operate at night only.
From 7pm to 7am taxis will be able to use four spaces on The Mall immediately in front of the Eason newsagents outlet.
Seven spaces will be available on a rank in the Abbey Car Park, adjacent to Cassidy’s Restaurant, from 6.30pm to 8.30am.
Three spaces will be available at Bridge Street, one in front of Shaws and two in front of ‘Small’ Benners Hardware shop from 9pm to 7am. Two of these spaces will be available 24-hours as mentioned previously.
On Upper Castle Street, opposite Benner’s Hotel, there will be a two-space night-time only rank operating from 6.30pm to 8.30am.
Finally on Russell Street, across the road from the Brogue Inn, there will be a three-space rank operating from 6.30pm to 8.30am.
Kerry County Council have promised to install prominent street signage around the town centre to direct customers to the nearest rank and explaining the times they will be operating.
There has also been a pledge from the council that gardai and traffic wardens will be patrolling the ranks to ensure no members of the public park in them and block taxis’ access.
