Review of taxi ranks and Mall next year

- By SIMON BROUDER

KERRY County Council and the members of the Tralee Municipal District council have agreed to review their decision to pedestrianise the Mall during the day and their ruling on the locations of new taxi ranks next September.

At a special meeting on Friday Tralee Municipal District Councillors voted in favour of new taxi bye-laws and agreed to keep the newly refurbished Mall free of traffic (except for business deliveries) from 7am to 6.30pm.

Councillors agreed to back the proposals on condition that they are reviewed next year.

A full review of the impact on business and community life of the new Taxi byelaws and the pedestrianisation of The Mall is to take place no later than September 1, 2018.

Following this review and based on any subsequent recommendations from council management Tralee Municipal District’s nine councillors will then make a final decision on traffic access to the Mall and the new taxi rank system.

The public and businesses are expected to be consulted as part of the review.
