Tarbert Players preparing great comic double-bill for four nights

TWO great rural comedies – one set in the big house, the other in a cottage – is the dual treat in store for North Kerry audiences as the Tarbert Theatre Players return to the boards in style.

Cassidy’s Chair (by Seamus Burke) and Marrying Mary (by JK Lyons), two classics from the ‘40s and ‘70s respectively have been sending the talented actors and crew home in gales of laughter since rehearsals started in August. Now, North Kerry gets to enjoy it all over four nights, starting in Tarbert Community Centre on Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19; and in St John’s, Listowel, on Saturday and Sunday, November 25 and 25.

Player veteran John Dowling (who stars as solicitor Mr O’Brien in Marrying Mary) is delighted with the young blood on board this year: “I feel like I’m the grandfather of the group, but I love being involved with such a great bunch of young people.”

It’s one vibrant local drama company with over 25 members, including the brilliant set design team of Johnny ‘Block’ Mulvihill, Tom Stack, PJ Normile and Trish Healy who have been working hard in the now idle fire station to create the perfect setting for both plays.
