Tralee man accused of theft

-

A TRALEE man accused of robbing a man of his wallet containing approximately €200 and bank cards, is to have his case heard in the circuit court after a district court judge declined jurisdiction.

Denis Ward (27), residing at Arlington Lodge, is charged with the theft at Maine Street, Tralee on October 5. He was arrested at Arlington Lodge and made no reply when charged.

The court heard details of how a male had been followed home along Maine Street when he was attacked from behind by two males, punched and kicked in the face a number of times before being robbed of the cash and cards.

Judges James O’Connor had no hesitation in declining jurisdiction, with the result that the accused will now appear before the circuit court.

Solicitor Nuala Liston said that there was no application for bail and the defendant was remanded in custody to appear before today’s (Wednesday) sitting of Tralee District Court.

Judge James O’Connor warned that the defendant should have a serious plan of action and money in place before he appears before another court.

During the judge’s remarks the defendant interrupted, stating that the offences were “alleged”. Judge O’Connor warned Mr Ward to keep his mouth shut before moving onto the next case.
