ERIN IS ON MISSION TO MARS

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

FORGET ‘Rocketman’, there’s a new ‘Rocketwoman’ on the scene and her name is Erin Scott, a 14 year-old-girl from Kenmare, who last week took part in the ‘Mission to Mars ‘Lego Robotics Academy in Nano Nagle Place in Cork.

Erin Scott was one of the lucky few, who joined members of Irish Girl Guides from around the country at the weeklong course organised by the Dublin City University Lego Education Innovation Studio in partnership with Irish Girl Guides (IGG).

During the course the girls, aged 13-19, had hands-on experience making Lego robots, which they learned to manoeuvre using programming.

The course is designed to encourage girls and young women to take Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in school and college and to consider pursuing careers in STEM.

“I liked the course. I thought it was very interesting and I have learnt many new things, such as coding and building, and now I understand what STEM is. I found the course very rewarding,” said Erin, speaking about her experience on the course.
