One to go as lightning strikes twice for Ó Riada’s

-

THERE’S a wickedly old adage that has us believing that good things come in threes.

If there’s a grain of truth in it, the people at Ó Riada’s Bar and Restaurant in Ballymacelligott should buy a lottery ticket or three this week.

Last weekend, they were guests of Sharon Shannon as part of her friends’ studio allocation on the Ray D’Arcy Show on Saturday night. They met all the stars of the show and Mary got a selfie with the host himself. A great show, session and lock-in was had by all.

With little or no time to recover their thoughts, John and Mary discovered that The Sunday World’s Pub Spy had dropped in and had faxed up a glowing report to headquarters on the bar and its ambience.

This is the second time, since it opened in 2006, that the place has been hit with the kind of praise that other venues can only dream of.

Two down, one to go. That’s if you believe that good things come in threes. I do, I do, I do.

Anyway, here below is that glowing report. You may notice that the ceiling of the bar got great mention. That’s the work of Killarney Road joiner, Joe Sheehy and the drink company logos were painted by his late neighbour, Mike Kenny.

Ó Riada’s Ballymacelligott “The Old Commando brought the Pubmobile to a screeching halt when he spotted O’Riada’s pub at the last second.

He had been here in October 2007 and the memories came flooding back to him.

He was curious to see if the pub was as nice as he remembered and we’re delighted to report that it is. The stone and purple interior is sublime and there is also a huge car park provided. The interior is just as impressive, with tiled and timber floors sparkling clean and the leather barstools in excellent condition.

The front bar had a mixed clientele with plenty of customer dining, but the bar area where we sat was full of men watching live soccer. The pine timber decor throughout was lovely and the timber ceiling is a site to behold.

Everything about this pub was impressive and every publican should make it their business to see how a proper pub is run the right way.”
