WALSHS SUPER VALU SOUTH KERRY CHAMPIONSHIP Dromid Pearses 3-7 St Mls/Filemore 2-4

THIS is a match that St Michaels/ Foilmore will look back at and wonder at 2-3 to 2-2 after hitting Dromid with two sucker punches and a strong wind behind them but it was Dromids experience and belief got them back on course for a semifinal spot along with their Munster semi-final. The fact that St Michaels/Foilmore didn’t register a score in the first half came back to haunt them as Dromid notched up 1-4 against the same wind.

It was the fourth minute when Niall O’Shea tapped over a free the 12th Kevin O’Leary scored a classy point from play to leave Dromid 0-2 up not a great return for the wind at their backs. It was the next two minutes that had a major bearing on the game as two mix-ups in the St Michaels/Foilmore defence led to two goals from Niall O’Shea. One more point from Gearoid O’Sullivan closed the scoring at half time and made it 2-3 to 0-0 in Dromid’s favour.

St Michaels/Foilmore started the second half with a lot of attacking play. Barry O’Connell scored a point from play and Darren O’Sullivan from a free left it 2-3 to 0-2. The tide was to turn big time in the home side’s favour with a punched goal from Matt O’Sullivan, before a speculative lob by Damien Kelly went all the way to the net to make it 2-3 to 2-2 in Dromid’s favour.

Dromid’s Padraig O’Sullivan then drove up the field and kicked a great score to take the wind halt St Michaels/Foilmore’s building momentum. Graham O’Sullivan and Tomas Curran added two more points from play to make it 2-6 to 2-2 in favour of Dromid. With Dromid on the front foot now Caoileann Farrelly saw his shot dip into the top corner to seal the deal for Dromid.

A long range free from Padraig King hopped over the bar but really it was somebody on the end of it pouncing for a goal was what was needed to bring St Michaels/Foilmore back into it. Niall O’Shea and Darren O’Sullivan exchanged frees to leave Dromid Pearses comfortably through on a scoreline of 3-7 to 2-4.
