HANDED DOWN

The next Handed Down on this Saturday night November 18th will see us welcoming to Scartaglin Charlie Piggott presenter and founding member of the legendary group De Dannan. Born in Cork his mother was a Dingle woman and his father from Glenbeigh. This definitely shaped his musical path and he has many stories about Kerry Music and its musicians that he met since he got his first melodeon in Caballs shop in Tralee as a child travelling to West Kerry with his mother.

He met Johnny Cronin from Reaboy Gneeveguilla in New York and Glountane man Terry Cuz Teahan in Chicago among others on many yours to the USA. Our young musicians are Caoimhe and Eimear Flannery from Rockchapel.

Coaimhe recently won The Fiddler of Dooney, prestigious title in Sligo. Our singer is from Scartaglin Julianne O’ Connor. The Mick Culloty band featuring Mick on melodeon, Sean Abeyta on viola and P.J Teahan on mandola will be joined by 4 great fiddle players. Emma O’ Leary Scartaglin, Noreen O’ Shea Kenmare, Kate Murphy Rowland Camp and Inishannon and Carol Leader from Clonakilty. Special guest will be Kenmare duo Joe Thoma on fiddle and Andy O’ Sullivan harmonica. A great line-up and we start at 8pm sharp.
