Mickey Ned signs off on 43-years of teaching

Former Coláiste Ghobnatan Baile Mhúirne Principal Breandán Ó Lionáird and former teacher Mickey Ned O’Sullivan enjoyed a retirement function with family and colleagues in The Brehon Hotel Killarney on Saturday night.

Mickey Ned O’ Sullivan spent 43 years teaching between Coláiste Ghobnatan, Coláiste Íosagáin, Baile Mhúirne and Scoil Mhuire, Béal

Átha an Ghaorthaid­h. One of the first trained PE teachers in the country, Micheál also taught Geography before becoming the school’s guidance counsellor in latter years, a role he performed with great dignity. He trained school football teams to All-Ireland wins 25 years apart in 1989 and 2014. Famous for captaining to All-Ireland glory in 1975, Mickey Ned also managed Kerry and Limerick at senior level and Kerry at minor level.

Meanwhile, Breandán Ó Lionáird succeeded Paud Ó Murchú as principal of Coláiste Ghobnatan in 1999, becoming the second Ó Lionáird to hold the position, his father Micheál also having served in the role.
