Killarney creates a space to study Brexit

- By TADHG EVANS

YOUNG people and decision makers from youth organisations in Britain and Ireland met at a major international meeting in EurÓg at the KDYS in Killarney this week, discussing Brexit and its potential impact on young people, youth organisations and youth work.

The Leargas-funded event took place at the acclaimed centre, the first in Ireland to receive European Youth Centre recognition from the Council of Europe.

The organisations participating in the project are part of an existing ‘Five Nations’ partnership between England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

“EurÓg is delighted to be hosting this coming together of our partners,” KDYS Chief Executive Tim O’Donoghue said. “It is the next step in our development of a state of the art centre which is of benefit to, and open to, all young people.

“We want to create a space where the impacts of Brexit on young people, and youth organisations and how we work together post Brexit can be examined. In particular we want to create a space where the voice of young people is at the heart of the Brexit conversation.”

In the coming months, Euróg will host a series of events and activities aimed at all young people, offering opportunities to both engage with community and access opportunities across Europe.
