Broadband finally gets up to speed
THE majority of homes and businesses in West Kerry will be able to enjoy high speed inter connectivity by the end 2018, according to Eir’s broadband rollout plan.
By the end of 2018 over 3,000 homes in West Kerry will be connected to high speed broadband lines that will connect to the internet at up to 1Gb speeds. This development will be welcomed by businesses outside of Dingle town who have struggled with inadequate internet connections.
At presentl 1,700 homes and businesses in Dingle are already connected at speeds of up to 100 Mbps and 330 premises have access to the higher speeds of up to 1Gb. Meanwhil, work is continuing in Annascaul where 440 homes can get 100Mbps and a further 160 can access speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
The 1Gbps connection is provided via a ‘fibre to the home’ (FTTH) connection, which means individual houses will have broadband speeds similar to what is available in the the Dingle Hub.
High speed broadband in West Kerry will be rolled out in three phases in 2018. According to Eir, the Ventry and Ballyferriter exchanges, including Dun Chaoin, covering 460 and 700 houses respectivley will be ready from next March.
June 2018 will see 500 premsies in the Ballydavid area able to order Eir’s high speed fibre broadband. Castlegregory is also included in the rollout and according to Eir the installation “will be completed by the end of June 2018 with more than 900 homes and businesses connected”. Eir said 340 premises in Cloghane will be connected by the end of next year.
All this comes as part of Eir’s national broadband rollout plan and further infromation on what premises will be connected to the network is available on www.fibrerollout.ie
