Ó Cruadhlaoich delight at a job well done

- BY JASON O’CONNOR

A GAME that pretty much spoke for itself in terms of the final scoreline still needed to be treated with the proper respect in advance and An Ghaeltacht joint manager Connall Ó Cruadhlaoich admitted that they have the same amount of knowledge facing the Limerick side last Sunday as opposed to Mallow in the semi-final.

“We found it a bit harder to get information on St Senans than Mallow but we identified their danger men and felt that we had to go with the wind in the first-half because any side can get use it to their advantage if they get it [the wind] from the off.

“We were fantastic from beginning to end and we’re delighted with the way the players applied themselves throughout,” Ó Cruadhlaoich said after the 22 point success.

He acknowledged that 11 players was a great spread of scorers on the day but said the victory was slightly tainted by the late injury to Cathal Ó Lúing.

“He will be a big loss for us for the West Kerry final against Dingle this weekend, but we’re still waiting to see how serious it [the injury] is going forward. We’re entering the unknown somewhat with preparing for the All-Ireland semi-final because we’ve only taken things one game at a time and now have to look at what we are going to do over the Christmas period with the players.

“We’re conscious of trying to fit in a break somewhere for the players with the run they’ve had,” Ó Cruadhlaoich said when asked about what they hoped to do in the period leading up to the All-Ireland semi-final with Moy.

He also acknowledged that there is a great buzz again around the Irish speaking area nearly a decade and a half after their successes at the highest level of Kerry Football at the turn of the Millennium.

“My parents are involved in the background and my father has been one of the people selling gear and it’s great to see the interest people are taking in wanting it for the matches and seeing the colours around door-to-door in the area.

“It’s a massive thing for a small rural club like ourselves to have and being senior again next year will bring it on further.”
