KSV Killorglin 123 LYIT Donegal 70

KEANES Supervalu Kilorglin welcomed Letterkenny IT Donegal to Killorglin Sports complex on Saturday last in the latest round of the National League Division One.

These teams had met last month up in Donegal in the first round of the cup and Killorglin escaped that day with a single basket win, and recent form would have suggested that this should have been a comfortable win. However, Killorglin went into this game without import Mark St Fort, who was away on international duty with the Bahamas, and so the potential was there for an upset.

Killorglin started the game at full speed , and immediately got off the mark with buckets from Ivan Bogdanovic, Kevin Grey and a three pointer from Daniel Jackubitus. Indeed, Jackubitus played this quarter like a man possessed, and LYIT Dongeal were really struggling to contain him – he was to finish the quarter with 19 points and Killorglin were ahead as a result, 35 points to 18.

LYIT Donegal settled somewhat in quarter two, and managed to reduce the deficit, but only by 4 points. They brought in their second American, Jonathan McGill and he was the one doing the damage – he was to hit LYITs first 14 points in this quarter. Declan Wall came in for Killorglin to try to use his vast experience to settle them down, and he immediately made a hugh 3 pointer and after beng fouled in the shot, punished LYIT further by also making the free throw. The half time score was 60-39 in favour of Killorglin 60.

Killorglin really put the nail in Donegal’s coffin in the third, when they out-shot their visitors by 31 to 12. Darragh Jones and Ivan Bogdanovic seemed to be winning every rebound , while Eoin O’Sullivan and Kevin Grey were running the game for Killorglin. Liam Croke and David McCarthy both came off the bench for Killorglin and got on the score sheet, while Eoin Evans was showing that he could compete with the big Donegal inside players. The third quarter score was Killorglin 91 LYIT Donegal 51.

Killorglin really went for it in the fourth, as they tried to beat their previous highest home score of 124 points. However, despite their best efforts and also some resolute LYIT defending, they came up short by a single basket. That said, Killorglin will be very happy with the performance and the win, and now move on to face Kilkenny in the cup this weekend, before the top of the table clash with Neptune up in Cork.

TOP SCORERS KEANES KILLORGLIN: Daniel Jackubaitus 33, Ivan Bogdanovic 21, Darragh Jones 16
