Support St Vincent de Paul this Christmas

-

ST Vincent de Paul is a major part of everyday life in Ireland and while the organisation may wish this wasn’t the case, the fact is more people than ever now require their assistance, especially at this time of year when the pressure of finding and spending money is a worry.

This year’s annual fundraising table quiz takes place on December 7 th at 8:30pm in the East Avenue Hotel and all are welcome where a table of 4 costs €30. The annual church gate collection for St Vincent de Paul also takes place at churches in the Killarney district on Sunday 10th of December and all donations are greatly appreciated.

“Our demand at Christmas time is always greater and we really depend on the donations and money we make at our shops which is put to good use helping people and ensuring everyone has a lovely Christmas,” said Patricia Lyne, Area Secretary of St Vincent de Paul, Killarney.

St Vincent de Paul also supply four primary schools in Killarney with lunches which the school distributes to children. This service has been running for over 3 years now and sadly, according to Patricia, is more in demand than ever.

Education is also important to the organisation as it considers it a release from hardship and poverty. St Vincent de Paul in Killarney regularly assist students with third-level fees, while the Killarney branch also have 26 social housing units, locally.

“All these services are essential to what we do and we believe education is very important which is why we help as many students as we can with their education grants and demand in this sector is increasing all the time. This is a busy time of year for us and visitations to families will be our main priority over the coming weeks. The money we make in the shop and at our church gate collections is vitally important and we really appreciate the support we get from people who are extremely kind and generous,” said Patricia.
