DELIGHT FOR ELAINE AT GARDA YOUTH AWARD

RATHMORE’S ELAINE NAGLE COLLECTS TROPHY AT WEST CORK GARDA AWARDS

THERE was delight and smiles all round for Rathmore’s Elaine Nagle when she received an Overall Award at the West Cork Garda Youth Awards presentati­on ceremony at the Riverside Park Hotel in Macroom last Sunday evening which was attended by over 200 guests.

Elaine was nominated by Jerh O’ Donoghue who is the Chairman of the Rathmore Social Action Group of which Elaine is an active member for the past four years, undertakin­g numerous local projects from painting houses for the elderly in summer time, to putting in the hours at the local Day Centre.

“This award is for Elaine’s great dedication and for taking part in the vast majority of activities that we do here in Rathmore. She puts her heart and soul into everything she does and is a very caring person,” said Jerh.

Elaine also puts her shoulder to the wheel when it comes to fundraisin­g for the local Day Centre calling from house to house on cold evenings, Jerh explained.

“Elaine takes part in every activity we have and she and her family were thrilled on the night to receive what is a prestigiou­s award. It was a lovely occasion.”

Elaine’s community endeav- our knows no bounds and she has also completed a Bronze in the Gaisce Presidenti­al Awards for 15-year-olds undertakin­g set challenges in four main areas: physical, community, a two-day walking venture, and learning a new skill. Elaine is now signing up for the Silver Challenge.

A total of 19 Awards were presented at as part of the West Cork Garda Youth Awards out of 118 nomination­s. Chief Superinten­dent Con Cadogan, Divisional Officer for Cork West Division, paid tribute to the winners, saying it was heartening to see so many young people involving themselves, while also stressing the importance of the spirit of volunteeri­sm and commending the positive input created by those who give freely of their time.

Mr Cadogan said An Garda Siochana was delighted to be in a position to honour the award winners.
