1. POLAR PLUNGE TAKING PLACE IN FENIT

TAKE a plunge into the icy cold waters of Fenit this Saturday, December 9, all in aid of the good cause that is ‘Special Olympics Ireland’.

2. RATHMORE SET FOR STRICTLY COME DANCING

THE Rathmore GAA and the Rathmore Ladies Football Club’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ takes place this coming Thursday, December 7 in the INEC in Killarney.

Running from 8pm on the night, tickets are set to cost €20 and are available to buy from ‘The Washbasket’ in Rathmore or from the INEC box office.

3. CHRISTMAS TIME CHEER IN BALLYDUFF

ENJOY the Christmas spirit in Ballyduff this coming Sunday December 10 when the village presents its pop up market in the Square.

Running from 3pm to 8pm, there will be plenty to keep everyone entertaine­d on the day with story time, fun and games with Mrs Claus and a visit to Santa Grotto on the cards to round off the day.

4. MIKE DENVER FUNDRAISIN­G CONCERT

MIKE Denver will perform in a fundraisin­g concert in Brosna this coming Friday December 8, in a concert that will raise funds to reduce the church roof debt.

Doors open on the night at 7pm with the show set to start at 8pm; tickets are set to go on sale at Walsh’s Electrical in Castleisla­nd and Tralee and in Brosna Village.

5. ENJOY KERRY’S SANTA 5KM FUN RUN

TRALEE and Castleisla­nd will be the scenes of two Christmas related fun runs this weekend.

The Tralee 5km Santa Fun run takes place on the morning of Sunday December 10 from the Tralee Bay Wetlands at 11am and will be in aid of a number of charities.

On the same day, Sunday December 10, there will be a ‘Run Rudolph 5km Run’ held at the ‘An Ríocht’ track in Castleisla­nd from 11am onwards.

6. KILLARNEY ON ICE IS BACK THIS MONTH

THE hugely popular ‘Killarney On Ice’ is back this month and organisers are looking forward to getting back on the ice.

The ice skating rink, which is located at the Beech Road car park, will run on selected dates from December 1 until January 7 with online bookings and opening times available from www.killarneyo­nice.com

7. STAR WARS TABLE QUIZ IN THE ABBEY INN

TO celebrate the release of the latest ‘Star Wars’ film, the SciFi Fan society in the ITT Tralee are hosting a ‘Star Wars’ themed table quiz on the night of Thursday December 7.

Taking place in the Abbey Inn bar in Tralee from 8pm onwards, there will be prizes for first, second and third place, with a raffle taking place also, with plenty of spot prizes to be won.

8. BASKETBALL EVENT IN AID OF CHARITY

A LOCAL basketball club here in Tralee will take part in special Christmas fundraiser next week, all in aid of the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

Taking place on Saturday December 9 from 9am to 9pm, Tralee Imperials will host a Christmas Basketball Marathon on the day; there will be plenty of games and music along with a bake sale, which will run from 10am to 12pm.

9. GET DANCING IN AID OF CHARITY

THE Chernobyl Children’s Fund inTralee will host their weekly social night dances in the Grand Hotel in Tralee this month.

The dances start at 9pm every Wednesday night with the dances set to cost €8. The lineup for the months of November and December are as follows: Declan Aungier (December 6), Peter Burke (December 13) and Best of Friends (December 20).

10. GET EXERCISING THIS WEEKEND WITH PARKRUN

WHY not try to head down to take part in one of the many parkruns taking place around Kerry at the weekends?

There are four parkruns in Kerry: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel and the Tralee Junior parkrun.

These free 5km events are run every weekend by volunteers and they have been proven to be extremely popular in improving both physical and mental health.

The Tralee. Listowel and Killarney parkruns are held every Saturday morning from 9:30am onwards while the Tralee Junior parkrun takes place on Sunday at 9:30am - these 2km events are aged for children from 4-14 years old. People can register and print off their barcode at parkrun.ie.
