Browne’s packed for annual draw

-

BROWNE’S Agri and Builders’ Providers main store was packed on Thursday afternoon with regular customers who all had an interest in the annual draw.

A huge table of spot prizes meant that nearly everyone in the audience got one or other of the quality goods on offer.

High fielding was a plus early on at the gathering as Manager Daly began throwing a collection of impromptu prizes like baseball and beanie caps.

Local Peace Commissioner Vincent Murphy was invited to oversee the placing of the tickets in the draw drum, the sealing and turing of the drum and its eventual opening.

Business manager, John Daly announced that the top prize of a €2,000 voucher for the store would be drawn first and then for the €1,500 prize and so on

down through the two tons of Polish Coal, the one ton of coal and the half ton of Peat Briquettes.

There was great anticipation in the store as the drum got its final spin and the seal was broken and Vincent Murphy’s hand dipped deep and came out with the top prized ticket.

“Mary Cullinane, Glounthane, Cordal,” announced Mr. Daly and the now Scartaglin resident strode towards him with cheers and words of congratulations in her ears.

The hush fell back down for each of the remaining four times that Vincent’s hand dipped.

This resulted in: Ann Foley, Farranfore; Laura Costello, Tralee; Joan McCarthy, Breahig, Castleisland and Noreen O’Callaghan, Ballymacadam, Castleisland respectively claiming a €1,500 voucher; two tons of coal; a ton of coal and a half ton of Peat Briquettes.

The scatter of tickets and the addresses on them reflected on the far-flung destinations from which Browne’s can draw on for its customer base.

The photograph of the winners was an all female line up the only males representatives were the aforementioned Mr Murphy and Mr Daly.
