North Kerry farm sells for over €700,000 ...
SALE MADE ON ONE OF THE BIGGEST SINGLE PROPERTIES IN NORTH KERRY
A 79-ACRE FARM with a large two-storey house sold for €705,000 at a public auction in Listowel last week in one of the biggest single propertiy sales in North Kerry in recent times.
The Dromclough farm - formerly owned by the Somers family – sold at an auction held by Dillon Prendiville Auctioneers in The Horseshoe Bar in Listowel on Wednesday last. Bids opened at €600,000 from a guide of €575,000 with two parties ultimately vying for ownership of the lot. There was a total of 21 bids which pushed up the price in increments of €5,000 until the sale price of €705,000 was reached.
The bidding was handled by agents and the identity of the actual buyer remains unknown
Situated roughly 300m from the Six Crosses towards Dromclough National School, the lot was an outstanding single landholding complete with a five-bedroomed 150-year old stone house still in excellent condition. It’s accessed off the Dromclough road with additional road frontage and access on the Finuge road.
Tom Dillon of Dillon Prendiville said the firm was very happy with the outcome of the auction and that the property represents a perfect opportunity for a farmer to consolidate disparate rented land into a single entity.
“It would allow for someone with a dairy farm based on smaller parcels of rented land to consolidate all holdings into a single property and have their entire operation in the one area,” Mr Dillon said.
“The land would certainly have been the driving force of the interest in the farm with the fine house making the entire lot considerably more attractive. The land is of good quality with the sale indicating the strength of the farming sector here at present,” he said.
