22 new homes to be provided in Kenmare
FURTHER progress has been made on the rollout of Kerry County Council’s housing programme with the signing of contracts for the construction of 22 new houses in Kenmare. The €4.25m project which is supported by the government’s Rebuilding Ireland programme, will see the new homes built at Gortamullen.
Kenmare Plant Hire Construction has been awarded the contract to develop the ten three-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units at Ard Bhearna, Gortamullen, which will commence in December. It is anticipated that construction will be completed by October 2018.
The contract for the project was signed at County Buildings in Tralee by the Leas-Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Patrick Connor-Scarteen and the Cathaoirleach of the South and West Kerry Municipal District, Cllr Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald. Also present were the Chief Executive of Kerry County Council, Moira Murrell and the Director of Housing at Kerry County Council, Martin O’Donoghue as well as staff from the council’s Capital Infrastructure Unit. KPH Construction were represented by Finbarr Healy and Donald Lynch.
Cllr Connor Scarteen welcomed the investment in new homes in Kenmare saying that this would assist in the provision of social housing for the local community: ‘this development is hugely significant and one which will provide new, top-quality and high-standard accommodation for housing applicants. I am pleased to see that a local company has been awarded to carry out construction and I look forward to the completion of these 22 new homes this time next year.
Council Chief Executive, Moira Murrell, said the council was working proactively to deliver on its social housing programme: ‘Thanks to the support of the Rebuilding Ireland programme, we are continuing to see investment in housing projects in Kerry which will ensure that those in need of accommodation are catered for. We look forward to further developments over the coming year which will see further delivery of the housing programme in the county.’
