RUGBAÍ Corca Dhuibhne had a fantastic win in the Munster Junior Cup Round 1 at home to Douglas / Carrigalin­e.

This was a game of firsts with Caoilte Ó Cuirnín finishing off a great move to score his first senior try for his club. Adam Daly then capped off a magnificen­t personal performanc­e with his first senior try after eight seasons at the front line.

Micheál Breathnach and his younger brother Gearoid Breathnach started and finished off two excellent breaks either side of half-time to secure a historic Junior Cup win for the west Kerry side.

Seamus Moriarty was in great form with the boot landing four conversion­s.

MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP ROUND 1 Tralee 47 Thomond 23

TRALEE produced an excellent performanc­e to see off Thomond in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup in Ballyard last Sunday.

There was some superb open rugby played by both sides and a combined total of 70 points scores is a testament to the attack minded endeavour of both teams. Dermot Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a penalty for Thomond. Mike Lyne put Tralee ahead with a try which Jack Quilter converted.

Stuart Ryan restored Thomond’s advantage with a try which Fitzgerald converted. Two penalties from Quilter and one by Fitzgerald saw the sides level 13-13 at halftime. Tries from Fearghal Ó Nuallain, Lyne, Danny Cournane and Nessan Crean, the latter converted by Quilter saw Tralee race into a 35-13 lead.

Richard Ryan scored a try for Thomond which Fitzgerald converted, but Eoin O’Carroll and Jeaic Ó Suilleabha­in added further tries for Tralee and Quilter converted one to seal a very impressive victory for the home side.

MUNSTER JUNIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 3 Killarney 8 Kinsale 3

KILLARNEY got a morale boosting win over Kinsale in the Munster Junior League last Sunday.

Alan Mulligan went over for a good try in the 38th minute but Kinsale hit back with a penalty after 60 minutes to bring it to a two-point game. Paudie Sheehan sealed the Killarney win in the 74th minute with a penalty to seal a nervous, but deserved Killarney victory.

Best for the home side on the day were Dylan McCarthy, Connie O’Leary, Paul O’Sullivan, and Damien Carroll.
