Hundreds take the first step in Operation Transformation
WALK FROM TRALEE BAY WETLANDS SEES 300 PEOPLE GET OUT AND GET ACTIVE IN A HEALTHY START TO 2018
AMAZING figures of over 600 people took part in runs and walks around North Kerry, including the recent Operation Transformation 6km walk, which was held in the Tralee Bay Wetlands and saw over 300 people walking on the day.
“It was a great turnout. There were people of all different ages of all different abilities out on the day and it was great to see,” said Córa Carrig, co-ordinator with Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership.
“Between the park runs in Listowel Tralee and Killarney and the Operation Transformation walk over 660 people took part in a walk/ jog/run” she added.
“The weather cleared and stayed dry for the participants; You could see the canal in all its glory as the sun came up. It was beautiful” Córa said.
“It was such a huge event,” she said “It wouldn’t have been possible without all the volunteers, the Civil Defence and An Garda Siochainn.”
The annual event has become extremely popular around the country in the last few years.
Minister of State for Transport, Tourism and Sport Brendan Griffin was one of the hundreds to walk their way into Tralee Bay Wetlands on Saturday morning. After the walk, Tralee Bay Wetlands provided refreshments with a selection of healthy options to choose from for lunch.
The event was organised by Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership with Sport Ireland and Healthy Ireland, hand in hand with Operation Transformation. While this was a ‘once off ’, the park runs will continue to help the active get even more active and the less active, active. Even the kids can get involved on a Sunday morning park run available in Tralee town park. Overall the event was a huge success in getting more people in Kerry active.
