The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Great night for Southern
IT was a wonderful year for the Great Southern Killarney, so it was a fitting nod to 2017 when the hotel’s proprietors, the Scally family, hosted an awards evening last week to thank staff for the hard work that contributed to a superb 12 months, which included prizes such as “Best Four Star Hotel in Ireland” and “Best Conference Hotel in Ireland”.
With each department nominating an exceptional member of its team, there was a lengthy list of winners on the night, which rewarded employees’ commitment to their roles. Eugene Bohan of Browne’s Bar won the title of “Overall Employee of the Year”, but he was just one of a host of departmental employees of the year that included: Maryann O’Connor, Conference and Banqueting; Danijel Medved, Kitchen; Bartosz Protasewicz, Garden Room Restaurant; Kathy O’Callaghan, Accounts and Sales Office; Jefer- son Malagola, Accommodation, Maintenance and Self-Catering; Artur Baran, Guest Services; Erika Golubovskyte, Reception; Roksana Malinowska , Innisfallen Health and Beauty Rooms.
Also among the winners were Denise O’Sullivan (Manager of the Year), Kathleen Bhuiyan (Recognition of Loyalty and Commitment), Adriana Timcova (Outstanding Service), Marie Lyne (Best Newcomer), Mary Noonan (for ‘always wearing a smile’), Liam Morris (for his ‘cando attitude), Pal Palfi (rising star), Raul Asuncion (behind-the-scenes star), and Eamon Canty (dedicated service). Margaret and Joe Scally congratulated the individual award winners while thanking staff, while General Manager Sinead Marron said, “It is with great pride that we finish 2017 with outstanding results and we look forward to 2018, to the reinstatement of the Great Southern, as our next great chapter and challenge.”
