Community fund deadline
COMMUNITY organisations are being urged to vie for a slice of an annual fund aiming to help people improve the places in which they live – ahead of a looming deadline.
Now in its fourth year, the Community Support Fund has already benefitted local groups to the tune of €2.25 million. As 2018 dawns, the fund is being ‘re-focused’ on five areas of community life in a bid to deliver what the Council describes as a ‘higher level of support which will result in a more visible and positive impact on the local community.’
Kerry County Council explained that the fund is this year targeting the following areas: “Growing and sustainable communities; community Tidy Towns initiatives and amenity projects; community sport and physical activity programmes; Community economic innovation; and community based tourism, festivals and events.”
“It is intended that some of the Community Support Fund will be used to target strategic projects in municipal districts and co-fund projects in receipt of grants from other sources.
“In 2017, almost €1 million was leveraged from other grant sources such as Town and Village Renewal and the Outdoor Recreation Fund as a result of the strategic allocation of resources under the Community Support Fund,” the Council said. Closing date for applications is Monday, January 22. Visit www. kerrycoco.ie for more.
