‘Fenit road is good to go’ - report
MANAGER RECOMMENDS PROCEEDING WITH PLAN TO REALIGN DANGEROUS BEND IN ROAD
A PLAN to realign part of the R558 Tralee to Fenit road that would remove a dangerous bend at Ballymakegoge – between the Spa and Kilfenora –is closer realisation this week.
It’s a project that would make life far easier for motorists and Liebherr crane transport operations into the future.
Tralee Municipal District manager Michael Scannell presented his report on the plan - the latest part of the public consultation process - to councillors at a meeting of the district authority on Friday.
In it, Mr Scannell delivered an overview of the three submissions made since the scheme was advertised in The Kerryman on August 9 last. Just one of the submissions objected to the proposal – but the report suggested most of the concerns will be allayed when road building gets underway.
The proposed work will see 905ms of roadway realigned and widened at Ballymakegoge. Inland Fisheries Ireland’s submissions sought to reduce water pollution - something the Council is to take into ‘account’.
Resident James Lynch submitted that the works would not impact ‘underground services’ to his home; that a drainage system be put in place to prevent run-off from the road getting into his property and also queried the impact on the water main.
The Council said it would protect services to his home and implement ‘adequate’ drainage measures; with the Area Engineer to liase with Mr Lynch on the water main concern prior to the project beginning.
“The proposed development is considered to be in accordance with proper planning...[it] should proceed,” Mr Scannell recommended to members at Friday’s meeting.
