Documentar­y on Camino voyage to open Dingle Film Festival

Dónal Ó Céilleacha­ir’s documentar­y film ‘The Camino Voyage/ Iomramh an Chamino’, which charted the progress of Domhnall Mac Síthigh and his comrades on their celtic odyssey from Ireland to Spain, will be the opening event of this year’s Dingle Film Festival.

The film features Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich, Glen Hansard, Liam Holden, Brendan-Pháid Ó Muircheart­aigh and recently deceased poet and writer Domhnall Mac Síthigh and follows the their voyage by naomhóg from St. James’s gate in Dublin to the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela

In the words of Domhnall Mac Síthigh, the voyage took “sweat, blood and blisters to complete while deepening and renewing friendship­s, creativity and spirituali­ty in the process”.

The story has been broadcast in the TG4 series Camino an tSáile but this feature length film will bring the voyage to the big screen and a wider audience.

Meanwhile Animation Dingle are searching for the young animator of the year 2018, the competitio­n requires students to make a short animated film on the theme ‘Under The Sea’.

The competitio­n is open to 4th (Transition Year), 5th and 6th year students and their Northern Ireland equivalent. The winning student will be offered a placement in JAM Media’s studios in either Dublin or Belfast, and receive an award designed by Dingle jeweller, Brian de Staic as well as a premiere of their film at the festival.
