Handball celebrates a good 2017

KERRY handball celebrated a very successful 2017 at its recent AGM. Looking back over the year Chairman Christy Moriarty congratula­ted the sports multiple All Ireland winners over the last 12 months - Dominick Lynch, John Joe Quirke, Jack O’Shea and Daire Keane.

It was also a good year at Juvenile level with Glenbeigh’s Sean Quirke winning the Munster U-14 title and Daire Keane winning his fourth in four years amongst the highlights.

Leah Morris and Rosin Smith are amongst the girls who had a good year despite just losing out in the U-12 Doubles Munster final.

On the home front he congratula­ted the Glenbeigh handball club on the refurbishm­ent of their 40x20 alley. The reinstatem­ent of the Senior County Championsh­ip, won by Dominic Lynch who defeated club mate Jack O’Shea in front of a packed hall, was a big success.

The meeting also paid tribute to long serving Kerry handball official Brendan Falvey who has retired from his role of Munster Juvenile Officer.

The Chairman thanked all for their assistance during the year; players, Kerry GAA, County officers, trainers, parents and those how assisted with the collection­s and selling of match programmes. He also thanked the media for their coverage during 2017 and hoped for more during the coming year.

The Election of Officers saw the following Committee in place for the coming year:

President: Paddy Downey - Chairman, Chair Christy Moriarty, Vice-Chair Pat Keane, Secretary Danny Riordan, Treasurer John Joe Quirke, Assistant Treasurer Pat Keane, Children’s Officer Bernie Reen, PRO Jack O’Connor, with Ashley Prendervil­le as the Developmen­t and Coaching Officer.

In the Munster 40X20 Senior Doubles semi-final Dominic Lynch and Jack O’Shea from Glenbeigh lost out to Clare’s Colin Creahan and Diarmuid Nash 21-15, 21-19.
