Free-taking competition will apply to produce Corn Uí Mhuirí winners on the day

- CORN UÍ MHUIRÍ Jason O’Connor

THIS lunchtime (1.30pm) sees the Post-Primary Football scene kick back into full gear with defending Corn Ui Mhuirí and Hogan Cup holders St Brendan’s College Killarney facing De La Salle Macroom in Ballyvourney as the quarter-finals of the provincial competition are down for decision. The Sem will have to make do with one of last year’s Kerry U-17 players however with Glenflesk’s Sean O’Doherty ruled out for today through a hamstring injury.

CLOSER to home in the John Mitchels Complex is the only all Kerry clash in the quarter-finals as an Eamonn Fitzmaurice managed Pobalscoil Corcha Dhuibhne side take on an Intermediate School Killorglin side looked after by Kerry U-20 selector Micheal O’Shea. Both have some injury worries, Cristóir Ó Catháin ruled out for the West Kerry school with a broken collar bone while Conor Murphy and Seán Arthurs are ruled out for the Mid Kerry school after recent operations. Eoin O’Sullivan is a doubt also for Killorglin ahead of today’s match in Tralee.

TRALEE CBS, meanwhile, travel to Rathkeale to face a St Flannans side who have managed to get the better of Kerry schools at this level in recent years. One bonus for The Green is that they have no injury worries as the victor of that game will play the winner of the all Cork meeting between Hamilton High School Bandon and Colaiste Choilm of Ballincollig in the semi-finals.

Extra-time is applicable in today’s matches if level after

CORN UI MHUIRI QUARTER-FINALS

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17 All games throw-in at 1.30pm

De La Salle Macroom v St Brendan’s Killarney in Naomh Aban, Ballyvourney

PS Chorcha Dhuibhne v IS Killorglin in John Mitchels, Tralee

High School Bandon v Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig in Valley Rovers, Brinny, Co Cork

St Flannans v Tralee CBS in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale normal time but a draw after extra-time will see a replay required. Such a potential replay will have to be settled on the day however, with a ‘free-kick’ competition coming into play if all additional periods in the replay don’t produce a winner. This prevents any further re-occurrence of three game saga Tralee CBS were involved in last year with Colaiste Chriost Rí at the semi-final stage.
