Two Killarney clubs in Munster Junior Cup action

MUNSTER JUNIOR CUP (LAST 32) Killarney Celtic v Ballingarry (Desmond League) Saturday January 20 Celtic Park, KIllarney at 7.30pm

TWO clubs take the Kerry flag into the last 32 of the Munster Junior Cup next Sunday with Killarney Celtic hosting Desmond League side Ballingarry and CG Killarney entertain Limerick District League side Janesboro with both games scheduled for Celtic Park in Killarney.

Normally only one Kerry team were allowed to progress to the last 32 open draw of the provincial competition and that was decided by a Kerry area final. However after a long fight Kerry were allowed two teams to progress to the open draw this season which is a very welcome development.

Killarney Celtic face a tricky tie against strong Desmond League side Ballingarry who play in the Premier Division and have beaten a number of Kerry sides in the competition in recent years.

It is understood that they have secured a number of extra players this season and this will make them much more difficult to beat.

However, Killarney Celtic have excellent credentials for this type of game and are unbeaten in all competitions so far this season. If they play up to scratch they should be good enough to etch out a win.

CG Killarney v Janesboro (Limerick District League) Sunday, January 21 Celtc Park, Killarney at 2pm

IT is a journey into uncharted waters for Division 1A side CG Killarney who host one of the strongest junior soccer sides in Munster Janesboro who play in the Limerick District League and have a huge array of silverware won over the years.

CG will go into this game as total outsiders but that won’t bother them a bit as they will have their own game plan and will be hoping it will work.

Manager Darragh O’Regan has done a wonderful job with the club over the past few years blending a good side together who give a lot of commitment and dedication.

They have been performing very well in the league this season and are in with a chance of making it to the league final.

However they know they are really up against it on Sunday and they will be hoping that they can upset the apple cart but that looks unlikely.

While upsets in big cup competitions happen quite regularly it would look that this game may be a bridge too far for CG but no doubt they will give it their best shot.
