The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
A career in Payroll
EVERY week or every month the magic payslip arrives to replenish the funds of almost two million employees nationwide. It is the payroll person who makes sure that we all get paid, on time and with the correct amount of deductions made from our gross pay.
Working in payroll is a varied, challenging and demanding career; you will need; a good head for figures; a tolerance for detail; the ability to work to strict deadlines; and the talent to work in a pressurised and changing environment. Dealing with ever changing Revenue, Social Welfare and Employment Law legislation, being proficient in the use of IT and dealing with a myriad of queries from employees and management alike, means that the role of payroll personnel is a highly demanding one, whether operating as a 1 man payroll department, or as a member of a payroll team in a large multinational.
Payroll is critical to the success of every business as all employees must get paid. Employers are always seeking qualified payroll personnel to ensure that the work is done efficiently and correctly, to keep both the employees and Revenue happy.
QQI (Quality & Qualifications Ireland) accredited payroll qualifications are gained through the Irish Payroll Association (IPASS). Classes are held nationwide and by distance/online learning. If you would like to gain a payroll qualification visit www.ipass.ie
