CIORCAL CAINTE

Ciorcal Cainte Irish conversati­on group resumes again in O Grady’s in Killorglin on Thursday January 11th from 8pm to 9pm. Newcomers welcome. Ciorcal Cainte will also begin at the Red Fox Inn on Tuesday January 9th 10.30 to 11.30 am each Tuesday morning. You are welcome to attend both. Bigi Linn. Comhra agus Craic!

PINOCCHIO AT THE CYMS

The Killorglin Pantomime Group will be presenting Pinocchio at the CYMS starting next weekend.

Matinees 3pm Sat 20th Sun 21st Sun 28th January Evenings 8pm Wed 24th- Sat 27th January.

SHORT MAT BOWLING

A game that everyone can play- regardless of age, gender or experience!

Come along to the GAA grounds in Glenbeigh every Thursday from 1.45 -- 4pm. All equipment provided, hot drinks and great fun for all!

OUTDOOR RECREATION WORKS

Councillor Michael Cahill has welcomed €200,000 which has been approved under Measure 2 of the ‘Outdoor Recreation Infrastruc­ture Scheme 2017’ for the following projects in Mid Kerry:

Caragh Lake Amenity Developmen­t - €100,000Total cost of project: €125,000

Works: Upgrade the existing public right of way to Caragh Lake to provide full vehicular access that will serve vehicles with attachment­s and develop universal access. Also to undertake a study in relation to the provision/ reconstruc­tion of pier and new slipway.

Milltown Heritage & Recreation Trail - €100,000 Total cost of project: €125,000

Works: Developmen­t of a trail that will commence in the centre of Milltown Village and circles around to Killagha Priory before returning to the village. Upgrade of existing tracks/road, hedge cutting, skirting and drainage works and the provision of a footpath and hard standing picnic area on the N70 entrance to Milltown from Tralee.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE

CONGRATULA­TIONS to Timothy McGrath , a Transition Year student of Killorglin Community College, who won 2 major Awards at The BT Young Scientist & Technology Event in The RDS, Dublin during the week for his project on the use of genetic engineerin­g to target bacteria that cause cholera in 3rd world countries. He was presented with his Awards on stage by Minister of state for foreign affairs and trade Helen McEntee. The inspiratio­n for his project came from his late uncle Fr. Tim O’ Riordan, who had outlined the extent to which cholera was contaminat­ing water in Kenya and exacting a heavy toll on African population­s. As part of the prize Timothy together with his Science teacher Ms. O’ Connor will be traveling to Africa on a special programme.

Well done to Timothy on this fantastic achievemen­t. And well done too to Cian, Chloe & Lily with their 3 projects from the school who got through to The Event this year.

CYMS BASKETBALL CLUB

Killorglin’s National League Team Keanes Supervalu have successful­ly qualified for the Basketball Ireland Hula Hoops Presidents Cup final which will take place in The National Basketball Arena in Dublin on Saturday January 27th at 4pm. Anyone who wishes to travel and support must buy tickets in advance www.eventbrite.ie we are HulaHoops session 2. Flynn’s are organizing bus for supporters and should you wish to travel on it please contact 0879687997. The team and some supporters are also staying in the Citywest hotel in Dublin the Saturday night following final if you wish to book a room quote Killorglin Basketball to avail of group rates.
